Background []
They are smart. Budgies are a great beginner bird. They have pleasant chirps. A variety of mutations are available. Buy a budgie who is young so he can be easier to tame and train. They have pink to purple ceres and feather lines that go down to the beak. Other small keets include:

Although The Canary Wing and Grey Cheek are not meant for beginners.
Housing []
A cage with a size 18x18x18 is okay but bigger is better. They need bar spacing of 1/2 inch
Feeding[]
Pellets, fruit, vegetables, grains, and occasional meat is the diet. Some budgies are prone to obesity.
Grooming[]
They need baths at least weekly. Nail trims are needed to prevent injury. Wing trims are optional, talk to your vet about beak trimming.
Health Concerns[]
They need at least a yearly checkup and whenever they are sick.
